Now I wonder how far back he wants us to go? Oooops never mind, I almost forgot - back to BEFORE women had rights - NOW I remember......

It seems that something very obvious has been overlooked - if a person wants to bruise themselves, the upper arms (and probably neck) are the easiest place to do it. All you do is reach across with the the other hand and squeeze. It would have been too obvious if she did her neck - she would probably have to prove he tried to strangle her, by having witnesses or something.

If the DA had proceeded with charges, she'd have received heightened attention from the media, a book deal and a Lifetime movie-of-the-week, plus a chance at some of Merriman's cash.
Since the authorities have declined to participate in her career plans, she's simply moving on to the "bonus-round" where she'll receive heightened attention from the media, a book deal and a Lifetime movie-of-the-week, and another chance at Merriman's cash.
It's a no-downside proposition for "poor little lamb" Tila.
Perhaps breathing her drunken last gasp in a twisted, flaming wreck at the bottom of a ravine might have served us all better.

I dare not speculate as to the source of "Tila's" alleged bruising. What I can say with the utmost confidence is that a California DA is NOT dropping a high profile case against an athlete, particularly in these times of highly publicized incidents, if she shows those arms to either the police or the district attorney.
And, if they did, it is they she should be suing, not Merriman.
The bruises are pictured above. They could have been made by Merriman and, frankly, they could be anything. They could be makeup, bruises from something else, bruises because he grabbed her to prevent her driving drunk, or a multitude of other things. Some women bruise very easily--I've no idea if Tequila is one of them.

Trisha,
I do sympathize with your plight, as much as I sympathize with any one (male or female) in this situation. Bad people come in both genders.
But this is equality....why should you be treated differently? Are you saying you should be?

Trisha-
NC Moms are like men with breast cancer. Same problem, tiny percentage of those who suffer from the condition.
However, unlike male breast cancer, NC Moms often don't have as severe of a condition. (If I remember correctly) less than half of NC Mothers are ordered to pay CS. When they are ordered, it's often a lower amount. From anecdotal evidence, I've seen mothers who are behind in CS get lenient treatment compared to men with arrears.
Lewis Says:

I hate to be the cynic here and I'm certainly sorry for Trisha's plight but I have to ask if 'Trisha' is an alias? I can't help but wonder if she might have a more traditionally masculine appellation and got snagged because some bureaucrat thought she was male.
I'm also curious as to how many men may have been got up in the burst of energy that netted Trisha. Mostly this sort of thing comes as part of a big effort by the bureaucracy to crack down on the 'deadbeats' doesn't it?

i find this hilarious because I've heard it a lot usually from the same people who claim that family courts are gender neutral
Isn't cognitive dissonance a wonderful thing? ;)
The courts are gender neutral, but there is no way a mother would lose custody unless she was really unfit!
Either they are holding two opposing beliefs as true, or their definition of "gender neutral" means women are superior to men.

...Sonja, name ten major inventions by women from the last 10,000 years. The woman's innovation ought to be independent of her husbands initial work. I'll give you a start: Kevlar, Liquid Paper, windshield wiper, ....
In 1809, Mary Dixon Kies received the first U. S. patent issued to a woman. Kies, a Connecticut native, invented a process for weaving straw with silk or thread. First Lady Dolley Madison praised her for boosting the nation’s hat industry. Unfortunately, the patent file was destroyed in the great Patent Office fire in 1836.
Until about 1840, only 20 other U.S. patents were issued to women. The inventions related to apparel, tools, cook stoves, and fire places. Patents are the proof of "ownership" of an invention and only the inventor(s) can apply for a patent. In the past, women were not allowed equal rights of property ownership (patents are a form of intellectual property) and many women patented their inventions under their husband's or father's names. In the past, women were also prevented from receiving the higher education necessary for inventing. (Unfortunately, some countries in the world today still deny women equal rights and an equal education.)
We will never know all the women who deserve credit for their creative labor, as the Patent and Trademark Office does not require gender, racial, or ethnic identification in patent or trademark applications. Through diligent research and a few educated guesses, we can identify trends in patenting by women. Here are a few highlights of recent statistical analysis to ponder, to celebrate, and to give reason to encourage girls and women to pursue science-, math-, and technology-based courses and careers. The women inventor patent share of annually granted U.S. origin patents rose from 2.6 percent in 1977 to 10.3 percent in 1998. The majority of the U.S. origin woman-inventor patents are in the chemical technologies. In 1996, 11.2 percent of the U.S. origin patent grants which were owned by the Federal Government at the time of grant included a woman inventor. In the past 20 years, about 83 percent of the U.S. origin patent grants to women were for utility patents, 16.5 percent for design patents, and 0.5 for plant patents. About 35 percent of the U.S. origin women inventors patents granted during the 1977 to 1996 period originated from California, New York, or New Jersey.
Today, hundreds of thousands of women apply for and receive a patent every year. So the real answer to the question "how many women inventors are there?" is more than you can count and growing. About 20% of all inventors are currently female and that number should quickly rise to 50% over the next generation.

Michelle,
Did I or anyone else, lets say - society - ASK you to marry that man? You did that on your own, who knows what you agreed to do with him. Now that you don't like his behavior, you want everyone else to force him to do it your way? Morally and personally, I would think he would pay for the kids and spend time with them. But then, he is not me. This business is between yourself and him - why should anyone else care?

Domestic violence is overblown. The real problems that we need to face are the low marriage rate and false accusations. Abuse isn't that common and doesn't affect the lives of many people.

Spoken like a true victim. Maybe she should of thought twice about who she was having children with, instead of having childern with a man that can't take care of him self but still expecting him to take care of his childern. She is just as at fault as he is for making poor decisions.

Wow, April, you had not one, but *TWO* children with an alcoholic / drug addict that can't hold down a job. What moment of genius inspired this life decision that affects not only you, but the two children you deliberately created? You aparently take ZERO accountability for your bad decision making, but rather propose that the government force someone to work and confiscate their wages to make up for it....
Imagine if women were branded "lying goldigging tramps" until proven otherwise, and you'll start to understand the point of view.
Editor Note: Offended_Dad - women ARE branded liars, god-diggers, and tramps every single day by abusive men. This is why the women file for divorce in many cases.

why doesnt she elaborate on her decision to sleep with and have a child with a man who was a drug addict? Or did she drive him to that point lol. Why is it never their fault? Why do they never accept any part of the blame for their decisions? How about taking into consideration that before you spread your legs and get pregnant you think about whether you can afford to raise a child by yourself?? she is a clear loser who wants to pass the blame for her poor decisions.
